It is a cool Sunday night in November; November 15, 1942, to be precise. Your radio is tuned to CBS. You hear the beginnings of a Signal Oil commercial. And then ... the penetrating tones of ... "The Whistler". The Whistler was broadcast weekly between May, 1942 and July, 1955. The program was originally on Saturday, but moved to Fridays, Sundays, Mondays, and then eventually back to Sundays at 9:30 PM. Its last sponsor appears to have been Lever Brothers, in 1955.
