Famous Weekly Old-Time Radio Shows
Sam Spade: Typical "Tough Guy with a Heart", Howard Duff as Sam Spade opened his shows with a telephone call to his secretary, Effie, explaining how he got into this week's caper. Sam Spade played from 1946 through 1951, on ABC, CBS and then NBC. It was always heard at 8:00 PM, on either Fridays or Sundays. The popularity of the program declined after 1949, when Mr Duff left the show. Apparently there was no sponsor other than Wildroot Cream Oil (which cost a quarter a bottle then). This minute and a half Sam Spade intro was originally broadcast in November, 1947.
