Famous Weekly Old-Time Radio Shows
The hallmark of The Green Hornet's intro was the buzzing of a hornet and the sounds of his car (Black Beauty) driving away. (Listen carefully - the manual transmission may not have had syncromesh). Kato, the trusty Philippine valet, was Japanese before Pearl Harbor. The show was first heard in January, 1936, on WXYZ (Detroit). It moved to the Mutual Network, NBC Blue, ABC, and back to Mutual in 1953. Note the similarities in story line (and some characters) between The Green Hornet and The Lone Ranger. Both were written by Fran Striker and George Trendle.
