First heard in May, 1937, on NBC's Chase and Sanborn Hour, Bergen & McCarthy were sponsored by that coffee brand until 1949, when they moved to CBS and picked up Coca-Cola as the primary sponsor. An often-asked question about the show was "how could a ventriloquist be so popular on the radio?" In addition to Charlie McCarthy, Mr Bergen was the voice for Mortimer Snerd and Effie Klinker.
