The Railroad Hour

Sadly, Hank passed away on Oct 19, 2014. He will be missed by his many customers and friends, and his contribution to OTR was significant.

The Railroad Hour

Postby kwiksand » Mon Jun 04, 2007 10:32 am

I'm looking for old radio broadcasts of The Railroad Hour which was a production of operettas (The Desert Song, Naughty Marietta, etc.). I listened to these from 1948 - 1952 and they usually were hosted by and starred Gordon MacRae as the male lead. I will appreciate any leads as to how I can locate these old programs. Thanks for your help!!

The Railroad Hour was on the air from 10/04/48 to 06/21/54.

Gordon MacRae was the host and lead performer with a variety of female guests to perform on the shows such as Nadine Conner, Lucille Norman, Dorothy Kirsten, Dorothy Warenskjold, Mimi Benzell, Elaine Malbin, Frances Langford, Jeanette MacDonald, Evelyn Case, Marion Bell, Jane Powell, and Ginny Simms.

Programs were based on well-known operettas and Broadway shows with some original musicals from time to time. The Crabapple Sound OTR catalog lists 52 CD's containing 104 Railroad Hour shows at http://www.crabapplesound.com/mu-group.htm#3377

Gosh that was a wonderful show. Absolutely amazing how they got the essence of operettas and the like genre so well-done and excerpted on that show. :) :D

WNAR internet radio has The Railroad Hour on Sundays at Noon, which is the time I used to hear it years ago.
