The Original Old-Time Radio BBS

I don't know where the problem lies, but maybe someone here has had a similar experience and can help. The problem is that when I click on any of the sound files, I see the following message from Acrobat on my screen:
"Acrobat could not open 'SPAM.ram' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been corrupted (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't properly decoded".

I have an iMac and I'm using OS 10.3.9. I have updated my Acrobat software. Oh, in case it makes any difference, I am using Safari as my browser.

Rather than Acrobat, you need RealAudio software to hear the sound files at this site.

Thanks for the information. It makes sense. Unfortunately, my RealPlayer hasn't been working for more than a week, and I can't get any help from RealPlayer's email help. I've found that this is not unusual. Trying to get help via email is another example of the impossible dream. I'm sure that I could get things fixed if I paid $55, but I'm going to keep trying to get some help from their email "service" until they have proven that their online "help" is totally worthless.

nik, I greatly sympathize with you! I supposedly have RealAudio loaded into my computer. And there is no mention of a fee. Then when I try to use it, it says that I have no access to it, as in your case. And yet there is a little RealAudio player that appears on my screen. I have concluded that RealAudio is a scam. I've seen that $55 fix-it-for-a-fee notice as well.

A much better player is the Winamp! That's a Windows technology All my old time radio shows will play flawlessly in Winamp. I have an older version of it. And an ad comes down from time to time telling me to update. I have been advised by others to not do it. It has too many bells and whistles to work properly. Not that the imaginary "RealAudio" and Winamp are NOT the same. If you are lucky, some websites offer you the option.

Thus I am able to listen directly from my Winamp to WNAR and the several other streaming audio old time time radio program services.

So "feh" on RealAudio. I don't know what their game is, but it's a loser as far as I'm concerned. I hasten to add to those who have succeeded in using it, God Bless You and the angel that made it possible
