Hans Conried - A Biography
by Susanne Gargiulo

Published by McFarland & Company, Inc

Ms Gargiulo's book consists of over 222 pages of historical text and photographs of Hans Conried's life and works, from his birth in 1917 to his death in 1982. The well-written softcover book contains many vignettes from Mr Conried's life, showing his activities in the various entertainment media - ranging from stage through radio and TV. Ms Gargiulo admits to some gaps in her presentation, as some material was destroyed by Mr Conried or his wife (apparently Mr Conried was quite reticent to make his private life public), but the biography seems to be amazingly complete.

The reader will gain an insight not only into Hans Conried's appearances and thoughts about radio and other media, but will learn of the background activities and concerns of some of the stars of the period. OTR collectors and listeners will find what is probably the most complete log or listing of shows in which Mr Conried appeared. Ms Gargiulo went evern further, to provide a filmography, TV appearance log, a list of stage work, and a list of voice work.

The black and white photographs and illustrations, many of which were found in Boston University's Hans Conried Collection, Department of Special Collections, illustrate many of the roles Mr Conried played,

If you have more than a passing interest in the "owner" of this well-known voice heard in many OTR shows, save up the $40.00 or so necessary to purchase the book, and spend some enjoyable evenings perusing it. The book is printed on alkaline paper, so it will give you many years of use.
