ARTHUR GODFREY:Adventures of an American Broadcaster

Postby Lou » Mon Oct 24, 2005 12:50 pm

Here's the result of ten years of research and interviews with family, colleagues, cast members and performers who knew Godfrey first hand including Larry King, Steve Allen, Andy Rooney, Pat Boone, Julius La Rosa, Carmel Quinn, Frank Stanton, musicians and producers. Arthur Godfrey Time was the last commercial entertainment show on radio, lasting 27 years and 11,000 broadcasts. Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts was on the air for ten years, both regularly in radio's top ten. Arthur was radio's first disc jockey, the first to bring humor to commercials, he invented talk radio, he broke all the rules and paved the way for Allen, Paar, Leno, and Letterman. So why is Godfrey written out of broadcast history and never had a biography until now? My book has all the answers from his fiery temper to the grossly misunderstood Julius La Rosa firing to the false charges of anti-Semitism. Behind the scenes photos and story after story of his incredible selling ability, his aviation and ecology exploits, and what it was like to be there at the station and CBS levels when radio rose to national prominence and tv came on the scene. The book is getting good reviews. As an old-time-radio fan, I think you will really enjoy reading this life story and hearing first hand from so many stars and observors. It's great fun!
