| I don't know about that - but he sang for a while, I understand, with the Sportsmen. So he would have sung bass on the Lucky Strike commercials. |

| Thurl Ravenscroft was the bass voice on Rosemary Clooney's rendition of "This Old House," a big hit song for her. He sang, "Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer...I'm a gettin' ready to meet the saints." Zooming ahead to "The Grinch" animated TV Christmas special, he sang "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch." His deep bass voice was also heard in earlier Disney animated features. |

Regarding the voice of Chesterfield cigarettes, I recall Jackson Beck as the voiceover for the jingle radio spots. Those were spot of the early 50s where the singer bellows out "Ches-ter-fieeee-ehld," like a cowboy in a cattle roundup. Chesterfield was competing with the Marlboro western motif at that time. I have a naughty version of that spot in my archives. Being careful not to mention the word here on this board, but it's a British word for cigarettes that was at the heart of the satire. Certainly not for broadcast! ![]() |
