Actor-comedian Howard Morris has died at the age of 85, according to old.time.request-radio@oldradio.net.... Though he was a radio voice for many years, he also did cartoons, directed many T.V. shows and is best remembered for his role as Ernest on the "Andy Griffith Show" GOD BLESS YOU, ERNEST....

I remember him best as a part of the great ensemble that appeared on "Your Show Of Shows" in the early days of TV, along with Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca and Carl Reiner.

I think the funniest episode on "Your Show Of Shows" was the one wherethey were a parody of "This Is Your Life."They forcefully carried Sid Caesar upon to the stage and when his friends from out of his past talked to him behind the curtain, one being Howard Morris. The funniest part was every time that Sid Caesar and Howard looked at each other, they would start crying for each other like they were in grief. Then Howard Morris would jump in Sid Caesar's lap. Then emcee Ralph Edwards played by Carl Reiner would mention something from out of the past they would start wailing all over again. Finally at the conclusion of the show, Howard Morris hung onto Sid's leg and he would carry him all over the stage. Now, that was "FUNNY! What a great 1950's classic. They were a big part of the funniest early days of television.God bless you Howie wherever you are!

Howie Morris later directed TV commercials. The last I recall seeing him was in Mel Brooks' "High Anxiety" movie where he played Professor Liloman. The Mel Brooks psychiatrist character kept calling him "Little Old Man." Morris had a full beard for that part. He & Brooks had a funny bit that went something like, "Do you remember the most important part of psychiatry?" Mel Brooks
