I am looking for information on radio actor JACK MOYLES.
All I have been able to piece together about him is that he got started in San Francisco, may have been friends with Jack Webb there, possibly migrated to Seattle and did some work for Voice of America. He had a huge volume of radio work such as Rocky Jordan, The Line-up, Fort Laramie, O'Hara, etc. but alas the radio books don't ahve much to say about him. I would appreciate any input. Thankyou. |

The June 2001 issue of RADIO RECALL had a detailed one-page article on Moyles, written by one of his associates, Misty Dawn Lane. Back copies of issues (or individual articles) are available for modest prices; details on our web site: <www.mwotrc.com>
A nephew of his, Jim Moyles of California, recently joined MWOTRC as a member and is also working on background data on his uncle. Maybe you guys could work together. If you wish, I could tell him of your interest and see if he will authorize me to give you his contact infomation. Jack French

Hi Ken,
I'm Jim, Jack's nephew. I am delighted in your interest in my uncle, a fine and very talented and underrated radio actor. You are for the most part aware of Jack's career. He was indeed a friend of Jack Webb, and my sister got to meet Webb's daughter, (I think her name is Julie). In early TV days, Jack was given a couple of brief cameo roles: I remember seeing an old Dragnet episode on TV where he played the role of a victim of a robbery; he was the proprietor of a candy store who had been stabbed during the commission of the robbery. Yes, he also was in "The Line-Up", a movie and a TV pilot, which later became "San Francisco Beat". He also was in couple of installations of "Fu Manchu"; in fact he played in and helped produce that pilot. I have yet to aquire copies of any of the aforementioned video, but I am told they do indeed exist and are available. I plan to resume my search in the very near future. In radio, he was a regular supporting cast-member in Fort Laramie, (Major Daggett), indeed a fine and sophisticated dramatic series, perhaps even better than Gunsmoke. Few people realize or remember that my uncle regularly took a helpful hand in the script writing of that series, (and most shows he worked in), for which he was never officially credited or paid. He didn't care; he was just glad to be a team-player and part of great shows. He and Raymond Burr got along pretty well, and Jack was pretty fond of Vic Perrin too. Even Vincent Price liked my uncle, The Saint had Jack Moyles on his show many times. ("The Adventures of the Saint: The Baseball Murder.") A wonderful episode of "Dark Venture" features Jack Moyles, but you will have to guess what role he plays. Jack Moyles is best known as Rocky Jordan, as you know. If you like the show as much as I do, go to www.radiolovers.com/pages/rockyjordan.htm, and listen to as many free episodes as you care to. < |
