| Is "The Guiding Light" the only show that started on radio that is still on the air today? Did "Meet the Press" start on radio? Does anybody know? |

The only two radio shows that I know of that started during the Golden Age of Radio and continue to this day are "The Grand Ole Opry" and "Unshackled". The first mentioned a music show the other a religious drama show.
As for soaps I think "The Guiding Light" is the only one from radio that is still on TV...Candid Camera did start out as Candid Microphone and most news shows can trace their heritage back to radio...But as the years go by any show, or movie, dealing with Superman, Batman, Sam Spade, Tarzan, Lone Ranger, Dick Tracy, or Little Orphan Annie can be proud that they all were first on radio. |

| From some information I found, Meet The Press started as a radio show in 1945. It was adapted for television in 1947. |

The Metropolitan Opera broadcasts date back to 1931.
Paul Harvey's noon commentary dates back to 1951....late in the OTR era. |

The original narrator & program host Jack O'Dell has since passed away. I recall first hearing the program back in the 1950s. The program is still performed before a studio audience. It comes from "'The Old Lighthouse' on Chicago's Skid Row." It's been a while, but they used to have a web site with lots of photos of the cast and crew. And yes, the theme and bridge music is played on an or |
