I don't expect to get an answer to this, but here goes. As a kid I listened to American Airlines "Music Till Dawn", host Hugh Lampman, I think. The sign on and sign off theme song was "That's All", an instrumental version. (Other versions were played sometimes as the show was progressing). I have tried and tried to find the particular version used, but no luck. It is a very slow, almost sad arrangement. Anyone know? Thanks, Walter Boatner

Gee....I remember that song & program. Like you I listened to
it while I worked on the Midnight Shift at a Govt Radio Station.
It would have to be Billy May, LeRoy Anderson, or Jackie Gleason. Though I'm not sure.

Walt: I believe the recording was made by either Mantovani or the Melachrino Strings. The tune was written by Bob Stanton, who was actually Bob Haymes, brother of popular singer Dick Haymes. In Chicago, the MTD show was hosted by Jay Endres (sp.?) Good luck in your quest, you might try Amazon for re-issued anthologies by either of the above two artists.

Walter, although I e-mailed you a rather long response on "That's All," here's a short reply. :) The wonderful rendition that opens the show was by the Sy Mann Orchestra. However there's a trumpet full music to the news version by the Tony Acquaviva Orchestra also.

Hal (or Jim), thanks so much for your detailed email answer. I was beginning to believe it was Mancini's version. (I even tried American Airlines but got nowhere) I would so like to get a copy of the Program (Mann) version. Like you, the song brings a feeling of melancholy to me when I hear it. I suppose its because I look back on the Fifties and early Sixties with a longing for a return to the ambience of that time.

Thanks again,

Walter Boatner
