When did the scales tip to TV?

Here's an off the wall question...when did the scales tip from radio to television? Said another way, when did the majority of Americans own television sets(and stop spending their evenings "watching" the radio)? I was born in May of 1951; my wife was born in November of 1952. I'm betting the line was crossed sometime during that 18 month window. Does anyone have any supporting facts on this?
