I bought a book (for .50 cents) at a garage sale today called "Radio Yesteryear Presents the Golden Age of Radio," by J. David Goldin, published in 1998. This book, which is about 8 1/2 by 11 and has a regular paperback binding, steals most of its contents from Jay Hickerson's "Ultimate Guide." Almost every bit of the program name/years and dates on the air/network/sponsor(s)/day/time information appears to be straight out of Hickerson's book. Goldin deleted Hickerson's notes on circulating shows and instead substituted a numeral to the left of the program title, to indicate how many episodes of that show Radio Yesteryear owned. He also added a performer's index of names that appear in the R.Y. archive, but as I said, the bulk of this book was stolen straight out of Hickerson. Will someone please tell me how Hickerson can work for years on various editions of his excellent book, and then this Goldin character (who credits himself as "The Man Who Saved Radio") can just come along and out-and-out steal it and publish it under his own name and get away with it?? He didn't even have the decency to mention Jay in the Acknowledgements section!

Just seems extremely dishonest to me.

Interesting! Golden is founder of Radio Yesteryear, and Sandy Hook Records, which issue old radio shows on tape and CD. They have directly lifted recordings from other companies so often, the Sandy Hook is sometimes refered to as "Sandy Crook." (A Spike Jones LP I once produced for Ray Avery's Glendale Records was repackaged with a new cover by Sandy Hook and sold under a different title. But I've seen other of their "reissues" that even duplicate the artwork on the jacket!)

Probably Golden assumes folks like Hickerson don't have the "big guns" (lawyers) to take him on?

These sorts of people who try and profit off
another's hard work are despicable...!!! There
are others out there too. Presently, there is
a new dealer on the net, ebay, etc.---selling
amongst other things, a few books on old radio
personalities...One of these, is a book written
by an honest, hard working writer, who also
happens to be a true lover and booster of old
radio....First published years ago, this dealer
has somehow managed to get the book and have
more issues reprinted with his own name added
and, listed as co-author of the book.....!!!!!
Talk about gall.....!!!!! No doubt there are
