I was wondering why Johnson's Wax sponsored the original audition of The Great Gildersleeve and then never picked up the series.

| This is just a guess, but I believe that Gildersleeve was what is known today as a "spin-off" of The Fibber McGee and Molly Show whose sponsors were Johnson Wax----they may have sponsored the audition for that reason. |

| Hal Peary, himself, in an interview in a Cincinnati newspaper from around 1980, said that despite good reception from most people, the head of Johnson's Wax didn't like the series and preferred to sponser Ransom Sherman's Chicago based variety program.
