Does ANYBODY know ANYTHING about a radio series based on the pulp magazine/movie serial character The SPIDER? The only info I've been able to turn up is that it supposedly aired on KMOX St. Louis sometime in the 1930's. It may have been on as early as 1936 -- the producers at WXYZ WERE aware of the character, and changed the name of their proposed "modern Lone Ranger" from simply 'The Hornet' to 'The Green Hornet'-- fearing legal action. It's also possible that the series may have aired in 1938, as that when the Columbia chapterplay 'The Spider's Web' was released. Apparently, cross-promotional radio shows and short-run series were not uncommon. Some people claim that there was no series based on the pulp character, and that any radio show called 'the Spider' bore no relation. Anybody have any facts?
