Is there anyone that remembers a series called "The Mystery Man"? I listened to it in the mid-1940's on the west coast. It was one of those 15 minute, 5 weekdays, type programs.
The premise of the program was that ____ _____, know as the "Mystery Man", would travel around the country, and when he heard of a "strange" occurence; or an old mystery; or something "supernatural" -- he would go and investigate it for 4 days; then, on Friday, he would be able to give a logical explination to the other characters involved. They were great stories that always left you thinking that there can't possibly be a rational answer to this mystery; but there always is. Thanks, Dan in St. Louis |

This sounds very much like 'I Love a Mystery', where Jack Packard, head of the A-1 Detective Agency traveled around the globe in search of mysteries. Jack was a pragmatist, and always believed that there was a logical explaination for even supposed vampires, werewolves, etc.
Many episodes of the show still exist today, as it retains its popularity even in these times, some 50 years after it finished. It ran from October 2nd, 1939 through to December 26th, 1952. Brian L |

The Mystery Man was a (detective) series that was heard on NBC between March, 1941 and March, 1942. It was a series of 15-minute episodes, heard five times a week.
I don't know if there are any available episodes, but, according to Jay Hickerson, David Easter is the logger of this series (1900 Angleside Rd; Fallston, MD; 21047) If you find any more information, please post it here, or in our Detective BBS. Lou |

Good evening Brian and Lou;
Thank you for your responses to my query; both were good comments. However, I found through another source, that I had been mistaken on the name of the series. It was: "The House of Mystery". It started as an hour program and then went to 15 minutes a day. If anyone knows of some of these stories, I would very much appreciate knowing. Thanks again. Dan Chestnut St. Louis, Mo. |

The House of Mystery was heard betwen January, 1945, and December 1949. It started as a 15 minute, sustained program, heard five times a week, on the Mutual Network. In September of '45, General Foods sponsored it, but it was heard only on Saturdays as a 30 minute program.
According to Jay Hickerson's book, there are only eight available shows. Lou |
