Over the Thanksgiving holiday, my mother-in-law told me a story about how she had misbehaved on her birthday once as a child. Her mother made her go to her room and would not allow her to listen to "Big John and Sparky". Listening to that show on her birthday was very important to her because they apparently wish a happy birthday to all the listeners with birthdays that week.
Anyway, I thought it would be fun to try and track down the episode that aired that day for her and put it on a cd for her birthday, which is January 20. I am not sure what year it was, but I figure that there are only so many times that a weekly show can be broadcast on January 20. If there is anyone out there who can help me locate this episode, I would surely appreciate it! Thanks, -- Brad |

The only source I know of for these 1950s shows is a collector named Fred Burney. He recorded them off the air himself when he was about 10 years old. I don't have his email address, but you can probably find his web page with a search engine like Google.com. All the other tapes I've come across are from programs Jon made for Armed Forces Radio or Family Radio in the late 1960s. Good luck with your project!

Brad I too am looking for copies of Big John and Sparky. I sent an E-mail to Fred Berney this evening to see if he has copies. Did you have any luck??
