As a kid in the 30's I was sick a lot and spent a lot of time in bed. My parents bought me a radio and I listened to all the old soap operas and adventure shows. Would like to find some radio program listings from the Detroit, Michigan, newspapers from the late 30's. Can remember some of the programs that were favorites but would like to renew "old memories" of those programs by getting a list of the ones airing in the Detroit area around 1934-1938.

Also, I remember that one of the programs used the song "When We're Alone" ("its only a penthouse, way up in the sky, with hinges on chimneys for clouds to roll by") for the theme. Does anyone remember which program that was?

Thanks for any help I can get.

I don't know the name of the program you're remembering, but the actual song title is "Penthouse Serenade," written by Will Jason and Val Burton in 1931.

David:

If you are in the Detroit area go to your library and find out if they have any of the Detroit area newspapers for the years you are interested in on microfilm. Most libraries do have these available and also, for a modest fee, you can print copies of whatever you find of interest. If you live near a college or university check them out too.
