| I'm writing a magazine article about the connection between OTR and Hollywood, with an emphasis on Hollywood films that also appeared on radio (either before, during or after release in movie theatres). I'd like to suggest to my readers some of the best and most significant radio adaptations of Hollywood films which are readily available today. Any suggestions? |

| All Of The Lux Radio Theater shows would be a good start. Along with Screen Guild Theater, Academy Award Theater,Hollywood Radio Theater, Hollywood Spotlight,Hollywood Star Theater, Screen Directors Playhouse, etc, etc. I am sure there are many, many others but those are the ones that "pop" out in my mind. All of those are pretty much available in good quantity, especially the Lux Radio. There are about 700 or more that exist. |

An early episode of the radio series Gunsmoke was made into a good Western. Unfortunately, this epsiode is one of the few "lost" radio episodes.
The episode "The Ride Back," which aired on June 28, 1952, later became a motion picture in 1957 under the same title. It starred Anthony Quinn and William Conrad. The Matt Dillon character is called Sheriff Chris Hamish in the motion picture. Here is the basic plot line of the radio episode: Matt is on his way back to Dodge after having captured his prisoner. During the long, dirty ride back they encounter several adventures in which each man, at various times, gets the upper hand. However, through it all, a mutual respect and admiration develops between them. Conrad was the producer of the film. Antony Ellis wrote both the radio and screen plays. |
