Yes, he was the barber of Hartville. Actually, when the soap debuted, it was titled "Bill the Barber" but Frank Hummert, the creator, later decided that "Just Plain Bill" was better.

Jack! You beat me to the punch! I was about to post the off- mike name of the show as Just Plain Bull. HA! Well, I will contribute a bit more. It's probably common knowledge to Jack. But Karl Swenson was JPB. Last I heard he headed the radio/tv section at the University of Wisconsin. I heard him read from a book a few years ago on Wisconsin Public Radio as we were motoring through WI. The theme song of the show as "Finculi, Finicula." It was played fast and spritely until poor old Bill got clunked on the head and had amnesia. So for this sad occurrence, the show's organist played the song quite largo-esque. (from yours truly, Jim Stokes, the ex-radio DJ and now moviemaker with NO expense account! )
