I have an old Lone Ranger tape called "Journey to Adventure" which is split into 4 "episodes", about 6 minutes each, with the origin of the Lone Ranger, Tonto, Silver, and Dan Reid. It sounds like Fred Foy was announcing, but it doesn't have an air date. Anyone know when this one aired? I've heard 12/7/38 & 12/9/38 or 6/30/48, but I'm not sure...

I'm not sure, but I think the recordings you have were never broadcast over the air. I think they are from a Lone Ranger record set aimed at the kiddies from the late '40's and early '50's.

Just looked up THE LONE RANGER in John Dunning's "Tune in Yesterday", and the information given is that JOURNEY TO ADVENTURE first aired on January 30, 1933 on Station WXYZ in Detroit.

None of the LONE RANGER radio shows were recorded in 1933. Recording of the shows did not begin until several years later.

Would have there been possible a home recording of a show prior to 1938?

The recordings you have were commercial releases, originally released by Decca records in 1951. They are not radio broadcasts, although they feature the radio cast members.

I have a Lone Ranger tape dated June 30,1948 entitled "Lone Ranger Origin". I believe it was commemorating the 15 th anniversary of the show on the air. It is a segmented show telling of Tonto, finding of Silver, and locating his nephew Dan with Grandma Frisby. Possibly this is what you have. Good Luck
