Does anyone have any knowledge about "AXIS SALLY" from World War Two? Any information would be appreciated, and finding her work anyplace from anyone would be wonderful!
Thank you in advance, Janet |

There is a wealth of information about America's two female radio traitors in WW II: "Axis Sally" and "Tokyo Rose". The former was Mildred Gillars, born on 11-29-00 (Thanksgiving Day) in Portland, ME as Mildred Elizabeth Sisk. Dropped out of Ohio Wesleyan College to go on stage, unsucessfully. Toured Germany in 1929 and then returned in 1933, eventually becoming a radio shill for the Nazis. She was captured after WW II and brought back for trial. She was convicted of treason in 1948 and sentenced to 10-30 years. Gillars served 13 years in Alderson Federal Prison in WV. After release she went back to Ohio Wesleyan, becoming at age 72, the college's oldest graduate. She then taught in a small parochial school in Ohio. Gillars died in 1988 at the age of 87.
There are at least a dozen of her radio speeches broadcast from Berlin that still exist today and most collectors |
