I'm doing research for a novel and am looking for a convenient place to look up what shows were actually on the air at what times in the New York City area. The dates are from approximately June 15, 1934 on through the end of the summer. I can find the shows in the New York Times Index, but this is tedious, and can lead to errors, since the Times seemed to remove advertiser's names from the shows.

Is there any place I can go on the web for this information?

Thanks for your help.

Not in the format you seem to require.

Your best bet would be to list the programs you found in the New York Times, and then cross-index them against Jay Hickerson's New, Revised, Ultimate History of Network Radio Programming and Guide to All Circulating Shows. Jay's tome contains sponsor lists for most of his entries. Most of the the sponsors listed, however, are for network shows, and not for those heard only in the local area.

Oh ... if you are interested, the May, 1935 list of shows heard in the NY area is at this site ... see http://www.old-time.com/otrlogs/350528.html

More info on Jay's book is at http://www.old-time.com/sponsors/hickerson.html

Many visitors to this site would appreciate the fruits of your research. After you have completed it, post a copy of the information in this BBS, or send me a copy that may be made into a web page.

You might ry going to your library and looking at some old newspapers from those dates--most papers had a radio section giving times and stations. The newspapers will be on Microfilm or Microfiche. Bruc
