does anyone have information on obtaining radio programs with canary songbirds on them? Any info. appreciated, sincerely, Sherry

Hi Sherry, There was a program called MASTER RADIO CANARIES which was sponsored by Hartz Mountain Pet Products in the 1940's. There is at least one copy still in circulation with traders. It definately has canaries singing!

I don't think this is what you're looking for, but it may be of interest...I research and write about the history of early radio history in the Los Angeles area, mainly 1920-1940 or so....

Radio station KHJ,first owned by the Los Angeles Times, was famous from 1922 to 1927 for having singing canaries in the studio that were often heard at station ID time and in various KHJ shows...Night time listeners around the U.S. searching for distant radio stations to hear, knew they had KHJ-Los Angeles when they tuned in and heard the canaries.

KHJ's slogan in the 1920s was Kindness, Happiness, and Joy, so the station manager/announcer, John S. Daggett, named the birds Kindness, Happiness and Joy....
