My memory sometimes fails me, but I seem to remember listening to Fibber & Molly as a youngster and the opening of the closet was a regular occurrence on the show. However, as a new collector of OTR, on the few shows I have been able to accumuate there is only an occasional reference to the closet. Am I wrong about this being a "running gag"?

The gag wasn't used every episode. I think it spaced out so the gag would not be overused.

In an interview of Jim Jordan (Fibber McGee) some years after his wife Marian (Molly) passed away, he said that the closet routine was only presented about 4 times a year on the show. It is so well remembered because of the spectacular sound effect, which always ended with a tinkling sound. People would listen to the show every week eagerly anticipating this sound effect.

Yeah. That was a lovely show. I used to imagine that Fibber & Molly lived in our house when I was a kid listening to the shows. So the hall closet was only on four times a year! Gosh, I would have said about once a month anyway. Oh well. I do recall a show ending with McGee opening the hall closet and then the show's theme came on! Never did hear it that time. Only in my imagination. That was the only show where I had it in my mind that F&M lived in our house! Wow, those were the days! I'm 63. So I got the radio show habit about 1946, I'd say, when I was 8 y
