| Can anyone tell me about the radio comedy of the 50's called Granby's Green Acres. When was it on? Who were the featured performers? Was it the inspiration for tv's Green Acres? |

This CBS series aired only for the summer of 1950. It was a spin-off from the Lucille Ball radio show, "My Favorite Husband". Gale Gordon and Bea Benaderet, who played the banker and his wife, on that Lucy show, became the couple on "Granby's Green Acres". Other main characters were Louise Erickson as Janice, the daughter, and Parley Baer as Eb, the hired man.
It definitely was the basis for CBS's "Green Acres" which aired on TV from 1965 to 1971. They changed the main couple's name from Gramby to Douglas (Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor) and dropped the daughter in cast. "Eb" was still there, played by Tom Lester, and they added "Mr. Haney", portrayed by Pat Buttram. "Green Acres" was set just outside Hooterville, the setting of another CBS TV show, "Petticoat Junction" and characters from these two shows regularly appeared on both. | Both series were written by the late Jay Sommers. Jay also wrote comedy sketches for The Spike Jones Show and the Jack Kirkwood Show. You can hear similar dialog and character mannerisms from show to show. |
