Can anyone tell me which radio show had the character Ishkabibble? I think this was the character who, once a show, would open his closet door and the listener would hear all of the junk that he had crammed into his closet tumble out onto the floor. My mother used to tell me about this show, but she has passed away now. I've done searches on a lot of websites, but so far I've found no information on Ishkabibble. Thanks for your help.

Ooops, Fran, you're mixing up two of your mother's favorite characters. "Ish Kabibble" was the nickname of Merwyn A. Bogue, the comedian on the radio show, "Kay Kyser's College of Musical Knowledge" which was on NBC, and later ABC, from Mar 1938 to 1949. The star, of course, was Kay Kyser who headed up the orchestra.

The guy with the closet was "Fibber Mc Gee", a comedy starring the husband and wife team of Jim and Marion Jordan. It was on the air on NBC from Apr 1935 to 1953, usually sponsored by Johnson's Wax. It was also briefly on radio in the late 50s, in a different format.

There are about 23 surviving copies of the Kay Kyser show and nearly 500 of "Fibber McGee."

Thanks, Jack. I do remember her telling me about Kay Kyser's show also. Those were both favorites of hers. Thanks for setting my memory straight.

Ishkabibble information is on the Kay Kyser web site. Just type in Kay Kyser on your brower. It will go right to that web site. There are lots of pictures of Ish and a bio on him. Very interesting web site. Ishkabibble is derived from a Yiddish word that means, roughly, "Why should I worry." You will note, then, that Ish's hair cut is very much like Mad Magazine's Alfred E. Neumann. And note that his motto is much the same as Ish's, "what, me worry?" The Yiddish phrase is "Ish Ga Biddle?"
