| I got to thinking recently about a post that I read here awhile back about getting good quality audio, recording otr shows with your vcr onto vhs tape. It would seem that the technology and capability existed to produce a great all-around audio recorder. Can anyone tell me why this never happened? Awsker |

1. VHS tape as an archival medium is discussed in the OTR FAQ.
2. How do you know it "hasn't happened"? Haven't you observed people wearing VHS sets clipped to their jogging outfits as they ran around the track with long extension cords trailing behind? Lou |

| Seriously though, if only for the sake of discussion - When I first posed the question, I had`nt been thinking in terms of portabilty (I did`nt see any people jogging around with Reel-Reels or DATs either), but I would have to believe the purely audio components of a vcr`s makeup could have been scaled down to a compact portable component. Which brings me back to my original question. awskr |

| In NY, I've recorded WBAI's OTR show through my VCR, hooking up my audio jacks between my stereo and the VCR, and was able to get some good shows. I seem to remember some years ago that Radio Spirits or some other company was selling an audio cassette recorder with a timer to record off the radio, though it was limited by the length of tape you used to record, (i.e.; one side of a two hour tape). With technology changing and the arrival of mp3's, the audio tape may be in it's last gasps. Reminds me of the gag in the movie 'Men in Black' where Tommy Lee Jones character picks up a small, silver ball and explains it's the future of recorded music: |
