Does anyone recall a late-evening sustainer, originating in the West Coast Don Lee studios, called "California Melodies" ? It featured mainly balads played by a fairly large Percy Faith-type orchestra, and the solo singer was Ken Carson, who had been one of the original Ranch Boys along with Joe "Curley" Bradley (Tom Mix). Carson also, at one time, was the male singer on an early Garry Moore TV show (Denise Lor was his counterpart).

Dan Haefele of SPERDVAC is the expert on this series and SPERDVAC has hundreds of these shows on disc. It was on CBS from 1932 to 1936, with the orchestra of Raymond Paige. When it came back on the air for Mutual in Apr 1940, it was a completely different format, usually with David Rose Orchestra. It stayed on the air, at various evening times, 9:30, 11:00 or 10:00, going off the network in 1947. Latter shows featured Les Paul, Frank DeVol, Frances Wayne, and Leo Arneaux.
