| How many have you heard? How many can you remember? Local or Network? ...Many years ago,... on a Local radio station's SANTA READS HIS LETTERS( those many "wants" from the kids)...the station Owner was Santa,.... the new young DJ is the Elf, jittery and fast talking, as he was supposed to be..... about 5 minutes of the program remains.... The Elf is having a tough time keeping up his pace , fast talking, jabbering, quickly answering Santa with stupid remarks to fill between letters..on and on, the pace quickens...and then....and then he blurts out.."oh don't worry Qanta, I am sure all those Girlies and Burlies out there will have their Cook and Milkys ready Christmas Steve..." ... Dead silence....followed by...(they both realize what just happened)...giggle..another giggle...then both breaking up,... stiffling of giggles....silence... and a fill of about 2-minutes of "Jingle Bells" to end this evening's short-wave pre-visit of the dear ole' bearded guy and his number one Elf...(not after that night) .. via the magic of RADIO. I can still hear that, it was honest, it was so dumb, just a local blooper, a mere nothing, but so ridiculous...it was wonderful. |

Twas on the old WLOL here in Minneapolis over a Christmas shift long ago when I was running the board on a call-in show. The announcer declared that here it is Christmas at 1330 Radio. No office staff downtown. And even here we have a
SKELETON SCREW. (If you don't get this Freudian slip of the tongue, the old phase he meant to say was "skeleton CREW.") |
