INNER SANCTUM is one of my favorite radio shows. Okay, so maybe it ain't Tolstoy, but I think it's a lot of fun. My grandma told me the other day that she remembers seeing a weekly INNER SANCTUM television series back in the 1950s. I checked the only two television reference books my local library had, but neither of them mentioned this series. I know a number of other radio shows attempted the transition to television, but was INNER SANCTUM one of them?
Also, does anybody know if there are many network copies of the radio version of INNER SANCTUM around? I prefer to collect network broadcasts, and I've got CBS broadcasts of a number of SANCTUMs from the Lipton Tea years, but almost all of the shows from the Bromo Seltzer years and from the later ABC run and the 1952 CBS run appear to be AFRS rebroadcasts. Thanks! Rich |

| According to The Complete Encyclopedia of Television, THE INNER SANCTUM was also a TV program. It was a syndicated program that aired for only a few months (January-July 1954). According to the book, Paul McGrath was the voice of "Raymond," the program's narrator. He was heard and not seen. There were 39 episodes to the series. |

Also, wasn't there a movie series of Inner Sanctum?

| Yes, there was a brief series of "B" films in the early forties. There would be a face in a crystal doing the prologue. Does anyone know if "Raymond" is still living? He was in bad health about a year ago. I believe he was living in New England. |

| Some of the Inner Sanctum TV shows are actually available. They're not great quality, but proves that 'Raymond' was actually seen introducing the show. |

| "Inner Sanctum Mysteries". Yes, that was a favourite. Was the voice of "this is your host" welcoming you through the doors" the actor "Arnold Moss". I cant for the life of me recall ever hearing of who the voice was. I remember Arnold Moss from an old "Bob Hope" movie (maybe "My Favorite Spy") and that voice surely could have been Inner Sanctum's. |

| What a vivid picture Raymond would paint in one's imagination as he opened that squeeky door and offer his "good evening". Man, the Inner Sanctum was scarey, at least to this youngster at the time. I think my folks evolked the vee chip of that day and forbid listening to the shows that sometimes would make a kid wake up in the middle of the night absolutely terrified. I always knew there was someone in the attic and, of course, under the bed. A guy just didn't hang an arm or leg over the edge of the bed at night. Raymond and the show drove home these basic concerns that a kid would have. Was I the only kid that got the willies listening to this show?? But always to return and listen to another episode??? |

The host was Raymond Edward Johnson until mid 45, then Paul McGrath.
Arnold Moss does appear many times in the index of Dunning's book, so he's done radio too. |
