Does anyone know anything about a morning radio comedy show aired in the New York area during the 1930s or 1940s that was called something like "The Mad Show" or "The Mad House Show?" It supposedly featured Henry Morgan. Any information about this program would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dan |

Morgan was born in 1915 so he didn't have a morning comedy show in 1930. He did get a job as a page-boy at WMCA new York in 1933 however. Over the next seven years, he was a part-time announcer and got bit roles in shows at WABC, New York, WCAU, Philadelphia, WNAC, Boston, and finally WOR, New York. The latter gave him his own show in early 1940, a Saturday morning show called "Meet Mr. Morgan." He stayed there doing his 15 minute evening show, re-named "Here's Morgan" for the next three years.
Thereafter he was usually on the air, at various stations doing a network show, either ABC or NBC, and gradually it increased in length to 30 minutes. He was last on network radio in June 1950, at that time his show was called "The Henry Morgan Show" and had an orchestra, guests, and a studio audience. This was a far cry from the 15 minute show he started when it was just Henry and a microphone, gleefully insulting all his sponsors. Jack French Editor: RADIO RECALL |

Jack,
Thanks for the information about Henry Morgan. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree about the show's title. Do you know if there was ever a show with a title like "The Mad Show" or "The Mad House Show?" Dan Skea |
