Yeah. That's "Let The Sun Shine In." It's a quasi-hymn tune. My vague recollection is that it came out in the late 50's. It came out about the same time that The Toys did "To Know Him Is To Love Him." Remember that? Cute song by two sisters, as I recall. It is actually based directly on a hymn song with nearly the same words. Except the hymn goes, "To Know Jesus, is to love Jesus." heh And this song is transplanted into a pop love song.

Well, let the sun shine in, is in about the same category. But more of a subtle God's love type song. In fact, it may be by the same two gals, for I know. If you really wanted to find out, you would have to talk to a disc jockey who discovered the tune, named Bobby Dale. However, he may have passed away by now. And that was his stage name. He went from KFGO, Fargo, to KDWB, St. Paul. Then he wound up later at KFWB, Los Angeles.

Thanks for your response. The song I am thinking of is a bit bouncy, and we used to hike to it as kids.

I do know "To know know know him" and the tunes are very different. If played in the key of G, "Oh let the sun shine in" would start G down a half step to F# down a half step to F down a half step to E up a third to G up a fourth to C, while the pop song "To know know know him" would start D up a sixth to B B B down a step to A down a step to G.

Someday we will be able to email notation easily.

Does that information help?

Thanks

I was just making a comparison in THE GENRE. The two songs are completly different. But in the same GENRE, that is, "cute pop religious," if I may create a category. heh.

Jim.

"To Know Him Is To Love Him" was recorded by the Teddy Bears and was the first hit written by Phil Spector (he was in the group) who went on to create the "wall of sound" and become the producer of many, many hits in the sixties. The legend is that the title was taken from his father's tombstone.

The Toys had a couple of hits in the 60's, among them "A Lover's Conce
