| Dick Martin's "Moonglow With Martin" was a late night jazz show which, as I recall, was broadcast by station WWL and originated from studios on the campus of Loyola, University of the South. I think his theme song was Duke Ellington's "Satin Doll", but this might have been his sign-off as I know "Moonglow" was also employed thematically.I listened to him circa 1954-56, and I credit his show with having fostered my enduring love of the jazz idiom. Does anyone have an encapsulated history of this show, and are there any of his shows available on tape or CD? Any particulars on the life and career of Dick Martin would also be greatly appreciated. |

I remember hearing the show. AM DX was a heck of lot better back then. Heard it in my hometown near the border of South and North Dakota.

A footnote. WWL had a great deal going. Their ID had to mention the hotel where their studios were, and for that they got their studios "traded out" as they say in the biz. Like a barter where no money changed hands. Let me see if I can recall. I may be wrong but I think the ID went like --
"WWL, New Orleans, Loyola University of the South, with studios in the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel in downtown New Orleans." whatever. I may have the name of the hotel wrong. Jim Stokes |
