WOV Internet Radio in Otisville-Middletown NY has expanded its nostalgia programming on Sundays. At 12 Noon eastern time there's a new show called a Sunday Kind of Love featuring Orange County Radio veteran Dick Wells . Dick has long been on the airwaves of the New York area. He began his career at 1010 WINS in 1953 as a staff vocalist (they used live bands in those days). He was later heard on WTBQ Warwick and was a main stay at WALL Middletown in the 70's and 80's. He is also known as an entertainer and has performed in Las Vegas and Atlantic City as well as recording several albums. Dick is also the worlds leading expert on the vocalist Dick Haymes and is well versed in Sinatra history. At 2pm "Uncle" Floyd Vivino has his Italian American Serenade. 4pm Is a show devoted solely to 78's and early Cylinder "Mechanical" recordings. The 78 Show is presented by Tony O. And at 5 PM is SwingTime With George DeSantis who is very knowledgeable about "Original" Swing since he lived in that era (he's 80 years old). If you haven't heard these shows yet you will take notice of the high production value. The guys at WOV are trying to fill a void in programming that many have been craving for. You can click on the link below to get to it. Hope you Enjoy. Henry Cotterill

Wasn't WOV a jazz and ethnic station in New York City? I seem to recall that the great jazz program host Leigh Kammen worked there. He has The Jazz Image that originates from St. Paul, MN on Public Radio International. I seem to recall that was the station he was on when he worked in NYC in the 50's. So call letters assignments change! :)

Nate --- I worked with Leight Kammen here at KSRS many years ago. I used to kid him in was "Amad Jamal & The Night Visitors" after "Amal & The Night Visitors," a Chistmas opera of sorts. I know very few and far between jazz artists. I have an interesting story though about meeting one, if not the only, jazz groups I ever met. There was a guy named Herb Schoenboem, a young guy who was very much into the Brazillian sound, that worked at KQRS at that time. One day I went back to the record library and there were a group of people speaking in a foreign language and going through the record library. I thought they had someone sneaked into the station. So I asked them who they were and what they were doing there. Also, I am 6 ft one and they were all no larger than about 5 ft four or so. They answer me in what turns out the be Portuguese. Then in comes Herb and introduces me to the members of Brasil 66, including the gal that sang "The Girl from Ipanema." So that was fun.

I wondered if this was the same Herb Schoenbohm that is presently contesting the FCC all the way up to the Supreme Court. He is an amateur radio enthusiast, KV4FZ, who lives in the Virgin Islands and is about 60 years old now. I did notice a difference in spelling though. Amad Jamal had a LP recording that featured either Poinsetta or Tangerine and back in the 50s the arrangement had the honor of being the longest recording time, I believe. Is there any jazz enthusiast out there that
