Can anyone please give me a rundown on the career of local and network radio announcer Knox Manning (1904-1980)? I know he was with KNX in Hollywood in the 1930s and was the announcer for NBC's Sherlock Holmes program in 1939. I was wondering how extensive his career was and what other types of network shows he announced for and when.

I heard he was in a few movies, also as an announcer in the 1930s, '40s and '50s.

Late in his career, he did news for Los Angeles AM station KDAY-1580, in the late-1950s to about 1960 or so. I understand he was a newcaster for CBS during World War II.

He had his own show, "Knox Manning Reports", and was also the narrator on these network programs: "Behind the Scenes", "Get That Story", "Front Page Features", and "So The Story Goes".

Mostly he was on CBS shows, including the announcer on "I Was There" and also "Hollywood Preview".

Knox Manning did appear in quite a few movies; usually as a newsman, announcer, or narrator. Some of them have links to OTR such as "Jack Armstrong" and "Atom Man Vs. Superman."

You can find a fairly lengthy list of of his movies credits by searching the Internet Movie Database.

Yes, I did find some listings for him in movies, including a couple of wartime films in the early-'40s, and a Bowery Boys movies from 1946, in which he played a ringside fight announcer.

Thank you, gentlemen for your help on this subject. It is truly appreciated very much.

I know that Knox Manning was either the program announcer of commercial spokesman on Rudy Vallee's SEALTEST PROGRAM during the early 1940's.

Did you ever wonder where in the heck did KNOX Manning ever get that first name of his? Who gave it to him..if he had it as a baby, and was it just a nickname? Truly, I always wondered about that.(..amo
