: :: 1) .... What yrs. was the Aragon in operation? : :: 2) ... Stan Freberg did a parody of the "Lawrence Welk Show" which ended with the Aragon floating out to sea when they couldn't shut the bubble machine off. : What year did this record come out? It was originally on a 78 I think. |

The Aragon Ballroom on Lick Pier in Venice, California opened in 1926. Lawrence Welk began his regular KTLA-TV series broadcasts from there in 1951. The ballroom was converted in 1967 into the Cheetah Club and was destroyed in a massive midnight fire on May 27, 1970.
"Wun'erful Wun'erful" (Side Uh-One & Side Uh-Two) was originally released as a 45-RPM single on Capitol in 1957, having first appeared - in a slightly different form - as a skit on the "Stan Freberg Show" CBS Rad |
