The Mello Men were Thurl Ravenscroft (bass), Maxwell Smith, Bill Lee, and Robert Hamlin. Thurl is best known as the voice of Tony the Tiger, and still lives (the last I heard) in Southern California. I believe the group was a spin-off of the Sportsmen, but I don't know the details. The quartet appeared frequestly on radio, TV, and records. An interesting bit of history: The singing tombstones in the Haunted House at Disneyland are the images and voices of the Mello Men! About a year ago, I found a dandy Web site with the history of the Mello Men. |
