The Standard Sound Effects library was produced in the late 30s and early 40s. Nearly every radio station and production studio had a set. You've heard some of their sounds a thousand times. These 78 rpm records with red, white and blue labels were still being pressed and sold right up through the late 1970s -- maybe even later.

Does anyone have a copy of their catalog I could have copied? I have a set of the records, but no list of their contents!

Oh Wow...yeah, I have some of those records and a catalog, but do not remember where the catalog is buried here in my stuff. Yep, you can still hear the car passing sound effect on many shows and was used on early TV programs...among others like the breaking glass window, effect...etc.....

Standard Sound Effects Records. Gosh. I don't know. But may I suggest some of the buy-out (no royalties) sfx libraries on CD. None come to mind right now. But there are some fabulous collections around. Someone who works in mixing sfx, music, and narration all the time told me he preferred the analog sfx because they had more punch. Yah sure CD gives you a "pure sound" but when you are doing like gunshots, analog carries the punch. Pistol shots in real life don't sound at all like the big BANG you hear in the movies. Of course, all the gunshots are added in post production, as you probably well know.

Apparently I was misinformed on this subject. Valentino may have distrubuted STANDARD records at some point, but their Sound FX line was MAJOR RECORDS, most of which were recorded in Hi-Fidelity or Stereo in the 60's and 70's. They have added to the line since, always using modern recording technology and authentic sources whenever possible. These are NOT the the STANDARD recordings, and I
