I am searching for any radio programs of my maternal grandfather, George B. German. He had a radio program on WNAX in Yankton, South Dakota in the 40's and 50's. He was also a well known cowboy singer. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Well now, a home-like connection. I recall hearing George B. German on "the midwest address of CBS, WNAX in Yankton" for many years. I went to the University of South Dakota with his son, Dan B. German. Lost track of it all, however.
I do know that WNAX still broadcasts at 570 AM! Have you tried contacting the station directly! They go waay back. In fact, WNAX is where Lawrence Welk and his Champaigne Music Makers got their start. I imagne that WNAX keeps archives. Jim Stokes |

Jim,
I have located a gentleman that has some taped radio programs of my grandfather. The University of South Dakota also has a music archive of my grandfather's works. You went to school with my uncle, Dan. He lives in North Carolina and is a professor there. I just spent time with my Uncle Tom German and his family. He is Dan's older brother. My mother was Norma German. Did you know any Doyles while at Vermillion. My dad had a swing band while attending there, his name was Bud Doyle or Harold Doyle. He had a brother, named Jim Doyle. I have yet to contact WNAX, last I heard they were trying to buy a lot of the vintage material from the 30's, amd 40's. I'll be going through Yankton, early August. My parents still live in Sioux Falls. Thanks for res |
