I've just got through reading the obit memorial to William N. Robson and in it, a reference was made to one of his adaptations; "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Ambrose Bierce.

I had occasion to hear this particular episode of "Escape" one Saturday from WBBM, Chicago. I fortunately decided to tape this episode and now I rate this tape as one of my "untouchables". I have made a number of copies for people who've listened to this marvelous story.

Ambrose Bierce was unknown to me before this story but afterwards it became a must to find out more about him.

The story relates how a southern plantation owner got tangled up in his attempt to do his duty for the South during the War Between the States. Harry Bartell played the main character ably assisted by Jeff Chandler and Frank Lovejoy. Narration by Williams Conrad and Johnstone were, in my opinion, one of the best.

In the passing of William Robson, radio fans everywhere have lost a friend. To his credit though, you can hardly listen to anything in the Escape & Suspense episodes that he didn't either produce, direct or both. A giant.
