I am searching for an Edward R. Murrow broadcast from 12/13/42. This commentary talked about the deplorable conditions at a jewish ghetto in eastern Europe. The transcript appeared in Ed Bliss' book, "In Search of Light," but I have not been able to locate a recording of this broadcast. I have tried the Milo Ryan collection at the University of Washington, as well as the CBS archives, and they cannot locate it in their collection.
Does anyone have a suggestion? |

That particular broadcast was part of a series of Sunday afternoon broadcasts that Murrow made from London upon returning from the United States in April. They were 15 minutes of folksy Murrow talking about the war, the people it affected and the future. Excellent Murrow. I know that the Milo Ryan archive does not have any of these in their archive. I am surprised that CBS did not or that the Library of Congress did not either.
I have been collecting news material for many years now and do not have that Murrow in my own collection. I suspect it exists, however. If you have a way of contacting Robert Trout, perhaps he could help. Not sure the best way to accomplish that, but going through National Public Radio might be a start as they produce Trout reminiscences regularly and he seems to be getting his material from somewhere. Would Mt. Holyoke University have anything? |

| Was this a "Report From London"? Ted Davenport has some and I've seen some listed in aircheck catalogs. |

I know that Murrow was reporting from London, but I don't know if it was actually called "Report from London." I was told that this 12/42 broadcast was one of a series of short 15 minute broadcasts, not part of his regular news schedule.
You said Ted Davenport might have some of these broadcasts. How can I find him? You also said you saw these listed in an aircheck catalog. How can I find this? Thanks for your help. |
