I've been looking around on ebay and other auction sites, and I can't believe what I'm seeing.
People are making copies of OTR shows, labeling them, and then selling them as sets, on thier own! In addition, one individual is selling 300 shows on ONE CD-R for $15, and has dozens of these discs for auction. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I mean you can buy 300 shows for a nickle a piece! There has to be some copyright infrindgment occuring..any thoughts? |

1. Read the FAQ.
2. Ask your copyright questions of a copyright lawyer, not here. Lou |

Just like Radio Spirits, Adv in Cassettes, GAA and others. They just happened to turn it into a business >In addition, one individual is selling 300 shows on ONE CD-R for $15, and has dozens of these discs for auction. I think it's great! Since this is a fun and informative hobby (except in rare cases like AIC, RSpirits, GAA) why not charge just for materials and time -- that's why trad ing is so prevalent. >Anybody have any thoughts on this? I mean you can buy 300 shows for a nickle a piece! As I said, wonderful!! New blood in the hobby from new people purchasing OTR at 'reasonable' prices will do more to keep the history alive than having only 3 or 4 high-priced outlets with a stranglehold on access to shows. I've always felt OTR is the perfect hobby -- the shows have no real-world (monetary) value -- and unlike many 'collectables', they are collected not for the investment opportunity (the monetary value does not increase) but for the value you place on the personal pleasure of hoarding or sharing your collection. >There has to be some copyright infrindgment occuring.. any thoughts? As far as copyrights, why would 300 shows on CD for $15 be any different than 1 or 2 shows on cassette for $3 to $8 from any other dealer? Or received in trad e for the cost of tape and postage? More power (and shows) to them -- I'm all for it!! Walt |
