Does anyone, anywhere, know anything about this series of quarter-hours? I heard it 40 years ago at 1YD Auckland New Zealand as part of a retro programming night.
From my memories, the hero was an English-sounding (tho perhaps East Coast American - back then I couldn't have told the difference)young man who had an un-house-trained houseboy called, I think, Hashimoto. Or perhaps Mr Hashimoto. 1YD Auckland is long gone away, & I wonder if anyone else has ever heard of this show? Philip |

The title of this series is "The Honorable Archie", sometimes known by the longer title, "Frank Watanabe and Honorable Archie". It ran on NBC's Blue in the mid-1930s and about 16 episodes have survived. Eddie Holden played Frank, the Japanese houseboy and Reggie Sheffield was Archie, his British gentleman, in this California household. A situation comedy, it was usually 15 minutes in length although there are a few 30 min shows too.

Jack,
many thanks for that response. Memory is strange and I somehow translated Watanabe into Hashimoto. Oh well... Now I'm off to see if I can buy a tape to re-awaken further memories... Philip (still working on DWtv in Berlin & National Radio in NZ) |
